Details: Leonard Herbert Sweet (1893-1916), born 15 June 1893 at Bridport, son of the Rev. Charles Francis Long Sweet and Edith Maud Sweet of Symondsbury Rectory, Bridport, Dorset, formerly of Stourpaine Vicarage, Blandford, Dorset. Brother, George and a sister, Dorothy.
Attended Walton Lodge preparatory school, Clevedon, Somerset.
Attended Sherborne School (School House) May 1908-December 1911.
Attended the Royal Military College.
WW1, He obtained his commission in the 1st Hampshire Regiment in March 1913 and was with his regiment at Le Cateau and during the subsequent retreat. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in December 1914. In February 1916 he was promoted Flight-Commander in the R.F.C., with the Army rank of Temporary Captain. Flying certificate taken on Maurice Farman Biplane at British Flying School, Le Crotoy, France. Killed on 22 June 1916, when on patrol with FE8 6378 was in combat with hostile aircraft Woesten Road, northwest of Ypres, was shot down, crashed and wrecked at 11.29 a.m.
