Details: Stanley Virtue Grierson (1898-1918), born 30 August 1898, son of W.J. Grierson, Glencairn, Austenwood Common, Gerald's Cross, Buckinghamshire.


Attended Ovingdean Hall preparatory school, Brighton.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1912-April 1917; 6th form; Prefect; Head of House; 1st XV rugby football team 1916.


Joined the Cadet Battalion.


WW1, 2nd Lieutenant in the Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany's). Killed instantaneously on the Western Front in France on the morning of 31 August 1918, either by a machine gun or a sniper.

Sherborne School: War Memorial Staircase; Book of Remembrance; Abbeylands roll of honour. W.J. Grierson donated £52.10s. to the Sherborne School War Memorial in memory of his son, 2nd Lt. S.V. Grierson.
