Details: Richard Ernest Groves (1896-1917), born 12 April 1896 at Dorchester, Dorset. Son of Ernest Groves and Frances Mary Groves of Armstrong, British Columbia, formerly of 26 St Nicholas Street, Coventry and Westleaze, Dorchester, Dorset. Brother of John Stiby Groves (1893-1916)


Attended Connaught House preparatory school, Weymouth, Dorset.


Attended Sherborne School (School House) September 1910-July 1911.


WW1, Lance-Corporal in the 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Killed in action in France on 27 March 1917.

Obituary, The Shirburnian, July 1917: 'PRIVATE RICHARD ERNEST GROVES, Canadian Mounted Rifles, was killed in action on the 27th of March. He was the second and only son surviving son of Ernest and Frances Groves, of Mara, British Columbia, formerly of Westleaze, Dorchester, Dorset, aged 20.'
