Details: Gerald Douglas Brooke (1891-1916), born 20 March 1891 at Darsham, Suffolk, only son of Captain Frederick William Brooke (1860-1952) and Gwendoline Mary Hope Brooke (nee St Leger) (1863-1954) of Littlewood, Lelant, Cornwall, later of Heath House, Fleet, Hampshire.

Siblings: Gladys Beatrice Brooke (1886-1946), Dulce Brooke (1888-1969).

 

Married to Hylda Mary Brooke (nee Chapple) of 25 Hayne Road, Beckenham, Kent.

 

Attended the Briary Preparatory School, Westgate-on-Sea.

 

Attended Sherborne School (The Green) January 1905-April 1908. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant www.flickr.com/photos/sherborneschoolarchives/15787600768...

 

WW1, Captain in the Suffolk Regiment, 7th (S.) Bn. Was in Canada when the war broke out. Returned at once and enlisted in the cavalry in September 1914, and was given a commission in the Suffolk Regiment the following December. As a supernumerary officer he did not got out with his battalion but joined it in October 1915, and was recently promoted captain. Killed at Ovillers-la-Boisselle on 3 July 1916.
