Details: John Lewis Benbow (1888-1916), born April 1888 at Bromyard, Herefordshire. Son of Richard G. Benbow and Catherine Florentia Benbow of The Capyards, Bromyard, Herefordshire. After her husband's death Mrs Benbow lived at Crawford, Littledean Road, Bournemouth.


Attended Sherborne Preparatory School.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1902-December 1905. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant


Worked for Lloyds Bank Ltd.


Enlisted in Swindon.


WW1, Private in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Killed in action at the attack on Combles on 18 September 1916.
