Details: Eric May Battersby (1885-1914), born 18 February 1885 at Knowle, Dunster, Somerset. Third son of Worsley Battersby (JP for West Somerset) and Jessie Battersby, of 12, Belvedere Grove, Wimbledon, later of 41 Queen's Gate Gardens, S.W. London.


Attended Clifton College School and Purbeck College, Swanage.


Attended Sherborne School (Harper House) January 1899-July 1901.


In 1903 joined the 3rd (Militia) Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment, resigning with the rank of Lieutenant in 1906.


WW1, Captain in the Queen's Own, Royal West Kent Regiment, 3rd Bn. On 19 September 1914 he was sent to France in command of a draft, being promoted Captain a week later. He was killed in action at at Neuve Chapelle on 28 October 1914.
