Details: John Folliott (1898-1918), born 7 March 1898, son of John Alfred and Amy Folliott of Tamerton, Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Attended The Modern School, Salisbury, Wiltshire.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) May 1912-August 1916.


Attended Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Reported in ‘A Sandhurst Letter’ in The Shirburnian, July 1917, that ‘J. Folliott is flourishing, and has developed into a first-class female impersonator. At our last concert, one of the company officers was very much impressed, and nearly collapsed on the identity of the ‘lady’ being divulged.’


WW1, 2nd Lieutenant in the Durham Light Infantry. Killed in France on 19 September 1918 when leading two platoons of his Regiment to the attack.

His colonel wrote: 'We have lost one of the most popular officers in the Battalion, one who was beloved by all his men... He is a very great loss to us all, both as a very capable officer and a very charming friend.'
