Details: Eric Wolf Theodor Freund (1896-1915), born 28 October 1896 in Wallington, Surrey, son of Emil Freund (born in Germany, nationalized, leather merchant) and Annie Maria Augusta Alice (née Ostermoor, daughter of Gerhard Ostermoor and Anna Ostermoor) of Sunny Bank, Park Road, Wallington, Surrey.


Attended Wallington Grammar School, Surrey.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) January 1909-July 1914; 6th form; 2nd XV; Lister prize 1913, 1914.


Attended University College, London.


WW1, Corporal in the Royal Engineers, 186th Company. Died of wounds near Merville on 22 December 1915.

Sherborne School: War Memorial Staircase; Book of Remembrance; Abbey House roll of honour. E. Freund and Mrs. E. Freund donated £5.5s. towards the Sherborne School War Memorial in memory of their son, Corporal E.W.T. Freund. In July 1916, Freund’s parents presented to the School Library the three volumes that E.W.T. Freund had been awarded in 1914 for the Lister Prize (for the encouragement of the study of the German language):
