Details: Charles Roy Limbery (1890-1916), born 21 January 1890 at Newport, Monmouthshire, son of Thomas Limbery and Margaret Limbery of 12, Barnpark, Teignmouth, Devon. Brother of Kenneth Thomas Limbery (1892-1917)


Attended Eastman's preparatory school.


Attended Sherborne School (Harper House) May 1905-July 1908; 6th form; Bowen History prize 1908. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant


Attended the Royal Military College.


In 1910, joined South Staffordshire Regiment as a regular officer.


WW1, Captain in the South Staffordshire Regiment, 1st Bn. Went to France with 1st B.E.F. in August 1914 and was twice wounded at Loos, and again in May 1916; twice mentioned in despatches. Awarded the Military Cross. Killed at Mametz on 1 July 1916, aged 26.

Sherborne School: War Memorial Staircase; Book of Remembrance; Harper House roll of honour. T. Limbery donated £5 towards the Sherborne School War Memorial in memory of his sons, Captains C.R. and K.T. Limbery.
