Details: Arthur Edward Sanders (1891-1916), born 7 April 1891 at Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, son of William Rutherford Bogle Sanders and Amy Sanders, of Hillcrest, Ferndown, Dorset, formerly of Berwick, The Avenue, Sherborne, Dorset.

Twin brother of Edward Arthur Sanders (1891-1963).


Attended Camperdown School, Bournemouth.


Attended Sherborne School (day boy) September 1904-July 1910; 5th form. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant


Attended Exeter College, Oxford. Exeter College, Oxford. ‘Oxford O.S. Letter’, The Shirburnian, June 1913: ‘At Exeter A.E. Sanders has been energetically beagling. This term he has been joined by E.A. Sanders in the gentler art of tennis’.


WW1, Captain in the Yorkshire and Lancaster Regiment, 2nd Bn. Went to France in December 1914; gazetted Captain early in 1915; served throughout in Ypres salient; mentioned in despatches. Died on 19 May 1916 of wounds received at Ypres Salient.
