Details: Robert Henry Sawyer (1890-1918), born 1 July 1890 in Nassau, Bahamas, British West Indies, son of R.W. Sawyer, Nassau, Bahamas. Husband of Georgina Sawyer (nee Simpson) of 4 Maple Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, later of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Had two sons, Robert William Sawyer (1912-1944) and John Patrick Anthony Sawyer (1917-1941).


Attended Nassau School, Bahamas.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1906-July 1908.


Occupation: Steamship agent in Toronto, Ontario.


WW1, Captain in the Royal Air Force. Originally enlisted in the University of Toronto Training Co.; chosen for a Commission and attached to the Artists' Rifles on arriving in England; joined 36th Squadron as a night Pilot on Home Defence; was C.O. at Hylton and Ashington; went to France in February 1918, in the 100th Squadron-independent Air Force. Died on 3 August 1918 of illness while on leave in London.
