Details: Vivian Norman Smith (1881-1916), born at West End, Eastleigh, Hampshire on 27 October 1881, only son of Norman Dickson Smith and Flora Mary Smith of Weytown, Beaminster, Dorset. Vivian Norman Smith lived at Beechcroft, Kilmington, Devon.


Attended Connaught House preparatory school, Rodwell, Weymouth.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) May 1896-August 1898.


Studied art at St John's Wood Art School and Burlington House, and was a successful exhibitioner at the Royal Academy.


Occupation: Art master at Gresham's School, 1904-1914?


WW1, Captain in the Wiltshire Regiment (The Duke of Edinburgh's), 6th Bn. Given Commission at outbreak of war in the Wiltshire Regiment, in March 1915 promoted Captain. Went to France in July 1915, wounded in October 1915 and returned to France in February 1916. Killed in Regina Trench before Miraumont, Somme, France on 13 November 1916.
