Details: Richard Popham Spurway (1890-1915), born 22 March 1890 at Newbury, Berkshire, son of the Rev. Edward Popham Spurway (rector of Heathfield, 1896-1914) and Gertrude Mary Popham (née Bagnall), Heathfield Rectory, Taunton, Somerset; brother of George Vyvyan Spurway (1893-1918).


Attended Connaught House preparatory school, Weymouth, Dorset.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) May 1904-April 1909. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant


Occupation: Land Agent.


WW1, 2nd Lieutenant in Prince Albert's (Somerset Light Infantry), 9th (S.) Bn. Attached to 2nd Bn., Hampshire Regiment, December 1914; despatched to Gallipoli in August 1915 on the "Royal Edward" and was drowned when the ship was torpedoed 6 nautical miles (11 km) off Kandeloussa on 13 August 1915.
