Details: Basil Alfred Capel Cure (1892-1916), born 24 December 1892, second son of the Rev. Edward Capel Cure (Rector of the parish of Stour Provost, 1896-1927) and Maria Capel Cure of Stour Provost Rectory, North Dorset.


Attended St John's, Winston House, Winchester; won a scholarship to the choir school at King's College, Cambridge.


Attended Sherborne School (School House) May 1907-December 1910; 6th form.


Sandhurst; joined the Gloucestershire Regiment, 1912.


WW1, Captain in the Gloucestershire Regiment, 2nd Bn. At the outbreak of war his regiment went to France from China. Died of wounds at Bala-zir, Salonika, on 1 October 1916.

Stour Provost church, Dorset: 1914-1918 war memorial plaque, and by a stone pulpit built to the memory of Maria Capel Cure (died 1912) and her son Basil Alfred Capel Cure.


Sherborne School: War Memorial Staircase; Book of Remembrance. The Rev. E. Capel-Cure donated £1 towards the Sherborne School War Memorial in memory of his son, Capt. B.A. Capel-Cure.
