Details: John Edward Templeman Barnes (1895-1917), born 26 August 1895, second surviving son of Edward Daniel Barnes (Old Shirburnian) and Lily Evelyn Barnes of Homefield, Godalming, Surrey.


Attended Ridgeway School, Enfield.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1907-December 1913; 6th form; Prefect; Head of House; shooting viii team 1912, 1913; colour-sergeant in the OTC.


History Scholar, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.


WW1, Captain in the Gloucestershire Regiment, 7th (S.) Bn., obtained commission on 8 September 1914. Served in Gallipoli (August 1915), in Egypt, and in the attempted relief of Kut. Killed in Mesopotamia on 3 February 1917.
