Details: John Donald MacDonald (1935-1966), born 12 January 1935, son of D. MacDonald, Watermeadow, Sutton Poyntz, Weymouth, Dorset. Married to Sylvia Margaret MacDonald (née Lees).


Attended Sherborne Preparatory School.


Attended Sherborne School (Lyon House) January 1949-March 1952.


Chartered Accountant.


Flight-Lieutenant, Royal Air Force, RAF Cottesmore, Oakland, Rutland.


Died on 11 February 1966 in a flying accident at Fan Bwlch Chwyth, Senni, Brecon Beacons, when their Avro Vulcan B. Mk.2 XH536 (from RAF Cottesmore Wing) took off for a training flight with a similar aircraft. The flight also involved making use of 'Ground Following Radar' (GFR). In poor visibility above Fan Bwlch Chwyth mountain, in the Brecon Beacons, XH536 crashed into the mountain top, killing all the RAF crew on board. At the time the area was snow-covered.

Roger Clare, Flight Lieutenant Navigator Radar.

Brian Waring, Flight Lieutenant Navigator Plotter.

Geoffrey Edward Fuller, Flight Lieutenant Air Electronics Officer.


Buried on 17 February 1966, Preston, Weymouth, Dorset.
