Old Shirburnian Annual Record, March 1984:

Major P.R.G. Pearn (c 1961-1966). O.S. will be very sad to hear of the fatal accident to Peter Pearn whilst on manoeuvres in Germany in October 1983. Peter was leading a squadron to seize a bridgehead over the River Weser on a NATO exercise. As he approached the Wester, it was necessary to cross a very narrow bridge and sadly it was too narrow and his tank turned over the side. The “Skins” (5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards) attended in strength the service in Ottery St Mary on November 8th, where he was buried with full Military Honours in a most moving ceremony.
