Details: Timothy Francis Haughton Mermagen (1938-1965), born on 15 January 1938 in Taunton, Somerset, son of Patrick Hassell Frederick Mermagen (Old Shirburnian), Headmaster of Ipswich School (1950-1972) and Nora Sonia Mermagen (née James) of The School House, Ipswich.


Attended The Dragon School, Oxford.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1951-July 1956; 6th form; School Prefect; 2nd XV (1954, 1955); 2nd XI cricket (1954, 1955); 1st XI cricket (1956); 2nd XI Hockey (1955); 1st XI Hockey (1956); PT Instructor with Badge; member of Wildman Society and Music Club; Sergeant in CCF (RAF Section).


Flying Scholarship, RAF College, Cranwell (SUO, Sword of Honour).


Flight Lieutenant, RAF, Fighter Command Aerobatic Team/Red Arrows.


Died on 22 April 1965, following a mid-air collision between Folland Gnat T1s during formation flying practice his plane crashed at the rear of Summerhill House Playground, Carmel, south of Caernarfon, while piloting a Folland Gnat T.1 from RAF Valley, Anglesey.


Commemorated at:

A memorial bench in Camel: 'for Flight Lt. Timothy Francis Haughton Mermagen , The Red Arrows , who died April 22, 1965.’
