Sheffield tram-train crash, 25/10/18

At ~15:30 on 25 October 2018, a Sheffield Supertram tram-train service, operated by 399204 and travelling from Rotherham Parkgate to Sheffield Cathedral, collided with a flatbed lorry at the level crossing on Staniforth Road, between Attercliffe and Woodbourn Road tram stops on the Supertram light rail portion of the service. Three people were injured, one seriously, and the tram-train was derailed and suffered serious damage. The accident occurred rather unfortunately on the tram-train's first ever day of public operation. Subsequently, it emerged that the traffic lights protecting the level crossing had been switched off by Sheffield City Council at the time of the accident as they were not working correctly, removing the level crossing's main protection.
