Eastern Kingbird

Alberta Bird #114

This is my first encounter with the Eastern Kingbird in Alberta. I have found this bird in B.C once before but never here. Found on the walkway of the John E. Poole pond there was a set of them protecting an area near the entrance. I think they must have a nest.

Eastern Kingbirds are extremely aggressive and territorial birds. They often attack larger birds and nest predators, such as hawks and crow. The Kingbird earned its name for this feisty behavior.
