This is capture #97 for me of Alberta Birds and a first for me. There were four of them on the hiking trail to Grotto Canyon. (Near Canmore AB) They were flying low to drink from the water because of the thin ice nearby.
I originally had left my 7D and Sigma 500 in the car thinking it would be icy and I didn't want to risk potentially slipping and dropping the camera. I ended up hiking the 1Km back to the car in order to get the equipment so I come back to capture these guys.
I am happy I did, I don’t know of many other places in Alberta that they would be in the winter.
