This is not the way the end will come. There will be no sudden rattle of collapsing ecosystems. Things will just get steadily more difficult. And among those things will be political decisions. But far more painful will be the steady erosion of choice, for those of us who have that luxury, and of options, for those who don't.
The latest pronouncement on biodiversity from the G8 - the so-called "Syracuse Charter" - gives not a glimmer of hope that our leaders understand the radical, innovative, and creative thinking that is needed to help us out of this fix.
It's broken, and we ain't fixing it.
