A must view "large on black" View On Black
Sara and I took a much needed vacation this past Memorial Day weekend. Under the advisement of talented local photographer Richard Thompson, we headed out to Silver Lake State Park in Michigan. I’ve always liked the beauty in western Michigan and it was a real treat to experience it again. I would best describe our daily activity as being supreme beach bums. We passed out near Little Sable Point Lighthouse during the noon and I woke up about two hours later looking like a human lobster! We tried to avoid the holiday crowd, which mostly consisted of off-road vehicle lovers who were ready to tackle the dunes, and I obviously tried to score some nice pictures.
It was especially difficult during sunsets because the beaches were riddled with tourists. I don’t care how much I know about photoshop, but there is only so much cloning one can do with the clone tool! On top of that, the skies were totally clear and it didn’t add much drama to what could have been a spectacular scene. I headed out around 8 A.M. to find a unique view of the lighthouse with the hope to make the final product something somewhat original. I’m very happy with the way this turned out. The golden light is completely natural along with many of the shadows. I think I found one of the best vantage points on top of the dunes. Well worth the sand filled hiking boots!
