I had so many problems making this cake.
I don't know why I agreed to take this order as i do not have much experience with cakes and cupcakes are more my thing.
The baking went well but the ganache and covering with fondant went horribly wrong.
I managed to ganache the cake with sharp edges(took me most of the day) and set it aside overnight to cover with fondant the next day.
The ffg day temp hit over 35 degrees(havn't installed an aircon as yet)and my ganache began melting.
I was really panicking and in the end I had to scrap out most of the ganache and leave a very thin layer.
I have not covered a cake in fondant for over a year and I also don't have much experience in covering with fondant.
I had made up a batch of red and white fondant few days before.
I covered the center piece of cake first ,that went well but the red cracked and stretched and looked awful.
I removed the fondant and tried again ,rolling out more.
Same thing happen:(
I had some bakels pettinice and decided to colour and use that(it's now 11.00 pm).
Same thing happened when I covered.
I decided to cover my untidy work with strips of silver but the edges still showed the cracks and I couldn't do much about that.
The cake was to feed 25 people but this cake turned out huge and I think fed around 35-40.
I was not happy with this cake at all but
my customers loved it (phew)and the dad even said"it's the best bday cake my son had."
I received a message the ffg day from the little boys mum that the cakes and cupcakes tasted divine.
