    (Out Of Africa)

Out of Africa we are but lately come

Bang the drum, bang the drum

Yes, you as well, deny it though you may.

Brothers, sisters,we trekked north, hand in hand

Migrants all, just seeking a better land

More fertile fields to graze our hungry stock

Just fifty thousand years ago, or so

A blink of history's eyelid, well you know

Our luck was in: the world was empty then

No peoples anywhere to turn us out

    For preservation of indigenous stock

Oh happy days, we were the indigenous stock

All black, there was no racial hate,

Till evolution sealed our role with Fate

We lost our blackness hue by hue

    Much of our humanity too

From Africa we are but lately come

Bang the drum, bang the drum!

Both the painting and the poem are beautiful, stirring, and inspirational! I love the colors you used in the painting - that is inspired by Obama, right? I really enjoy reading the poem accompanying the painting. For the next DPG, could you post a poem so that we could interpret it through art? I'd love to give it a try.

I'll have my painting up today - I have one almost done but I'm not happy with it so I'm hoping to squeeze one painting in today that can serve as the June DPG.

Thank you, Kathy. That's so generous of you - and you got the inspiration for the piece absolutely right.
Your idea of putting up a poem to paint would be quite a challenge. I'd love to do it if other members are happy with it. I've already posted a subject for July (anything in monotone) so I'll do the poem for August - which might give me time to write a new one if the muse favours me
