Downtown Los Angeles, Broadway. A slum

Broadway - Downtown Los Angeles, California.

Made with my point and shoot Canon PowerShot SD500 at it's widest. Notice the slight bend in the horizontal lines caused by the small lens in this excellent camera.

This area was the epicenter of L.A. culture during the 20's. LA was a city that rivaled all others during that time. Today it's a slum thanks to Californian politicians who favor "nanny state" governmental policies and high taxes over hard work, citizenship, and self reliance.

Take a look at what this area of LA was like back in the 20s and 30s.

Interesting. The wide scope of the street scene allows for a lot of little items to fill the screen and catch the photographer's eye.
Seen on your photo stream. (?)

Slum? That's your opinion. I'd rather it be a slum welcome to all, rather than how it was in the 20's and 30s when if you weren't white and rich, you were a second class citizen. You blame California polititions. Which policies caused the migration to the suburbs after WW2? How would like to be Black, Asian, Latino, etc. and not be permitted into Broadway's Theatres, restricted to certain days and times, or restricted to balconies

I too longed for the restoration of Downtown LA. It's finally happening, but there is very little that interests me in the sterile, overpriced businesses that are replacing those of the past few decades.

I'll take a slum over gentrified anyday.
