bird's eye bottle beach
(don't mind me, just reposting a 5D MkII version of that ol' iphone snap)
Ever since I met Ben (several years ago), I have been hearing him wax on about this place, where he spent a significant amount of time on two separate occasions while traveling through Asia. So after enduring several years of stories, I decided to jump at the chance to not only see the place, but to meet him and Beth there.
It definitely lived up to the hype as a pretty special place due in part to being somewhat difficult to get to (plane to bus to ferry to car to longtail boat), which meant that most of the people staying there are in it for the long haul, and that the d-bag partyheads get bored after a day and leave. With only 100 or so people on the beach it was the type of place where everyone says good morning and evenings are spent drinking thai whiskey with the bungalow staff and singing american and thai pop songs to acoustic guitar (if youre lucky), inventing new snack foods, sending fiery papery balloons into the night sky and watching them until they blended in with the stars. Days upon days melt away getting "booked up" with a daily swim across the bay, a daily walk down the beach, two lunches and two dinners (to the point that I was always "way too busy" to even get a massage!).
