Harbor Bay Ferry Landing, Alameda

The Harbor Bay Ferry is something of an oddity. Unlike other Bay Area commuter ferries serving more densely populated areas, it serves the relatively isolated enclave of Bay Farm Island. But then many of the people who live in Bay Farm work in the Financial District -- and the area's primary developer, Ron Cowan, rightly recognizing that ferry service could be a selling point, made sure it would be an available amenity. Of course, the service is heavily subsidized, while less-expensive bus service in neighboring communities has been repeatedly cut.
