Patricia's Green from Hayes and Octavia

Patricia's Green from the crossroads of Hayes Valley, the corner of Hayes and Octavia.

I'm intrigued by the way that the trees range from Canary Island date palms at the Market St. intersection, through deciduous Lombardy poplars, flowering cherries, Callery pears, and semi-evergreen Chinese elms along the main trunk of the boulevard, culminating at Patricia's green in evergreen mayten (Maytenus boaria) and pepper (Schinus molle) trees and hybrid Washingtonia palms. The pears are a poor choice for San Francisco, but the others work pretty well and I'd never thought til now about how they almost create a story structure: beginning, middle and end. The finale -- the lovely park -- is cozily evergreen.
