Perched above the Ocean - a Puffin
FLICKR EXPLORE - July 30, 2009 (Thanks for all of your comments, faves and invites).
The highlight of our recent trip to Ireland was a day excursion my wife and I took with two great Flickr friends, MarsW and TT FAUGHAN, and Tom's wife, to Rathlin Island, just off the NE coast of Northern Ireland. Rathlin Island is a mystical place with a scenic harbour, beautiful old buildings and churches and abundant wildlife including seal and numerous birds. At the west of the island is the renowned RSPB Seabird Centre, where tens of thousands of birds (puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes) can be viewed during the summer months. View On Black
This image of a colourful puffin perched high above the Atlantic Ocean was taken from the Centre, using a 300 mm telephoto lens I borrowed from Tom. The whole experience was exhilarating. Please have a look at the photostreams of MarsW and
TT FAUGHAN for other excellent images of this fabulous outing.
