Griffith Park Fire

This is the view from my bedroom window as of 7:30pm. All we can hear is fire engines, the air is dry, windy, and ashy and the hills are ablaze. The smoke is obscuring the flames in this photo, they are spread all across the ridge and are creeping closer and closer to the residential part of Los Feliz. It looks so much worse in person, I wish I could convey how nuts this is. The fire has grown worse and worse because of the unseasonably dry day and gusty winds. Everybody please keep your fingers crossed for the firefighters and residents of the area.

Wondering how this started? Reportedly, a golfer (edit: now they're saying it may have been a homeless man) in Griffith Park tossed a lit cigarette aside. Boy, smoking sure is cool.

EDIT: We first noticed smoke in the hills about 1:30 pm. It didn't seem that serious at the time-- bad, yes, but not huge. We couldn't even see flames. Now it's been burning for 8 hours, it's grown much larger, and the LAFD is saying it's only 25% under control. It's really frightening because it keeps spreading closer to the residential areas. More on Boing Boing.
