The Curch of St. Lawrence in Vantaa, Finland
A little bit of local history:
One Sunday morning in May 1893 disaster stuck the Church of St. Lawrence (note: no Lawrences are mentioned in the Bible). It is evident the fire started from the heating system which was lit for the Sunday service of the day. The fire destroyed practically all wooden in the church. Also some stone structures were destroyed. The altarpiece, chandeliers, brass sconces and liturgical (in?)vestments were saved by brave men.
The church was restored by the following spring in accordance with plans prepared by architect Theodor Höijer. The result, a mixture of medieval and Höijerian(!) styles is surely unique in the history of Finnish architecture.
