christiania, glass house, august 2007

glass house built from salvaged materials, situated right on the edge of copenhagen's renaissance defense line in autonomous squatters' community christiania.
the glass house and its many neighbours are seriously under threat these years, but the wild, everyday poetry of this building has rarely, if ever, been achieved by any professional, Danish architect, and it should be listed rather than razed.
outside knut knutsen's critical romanticism in norway and rural studio's radical recycling in the states, I can't think of any established architect whose work gets anywhere near this combination of humbleness and power of expression.
