From the Archives: Postcard from David Griffith
Austin, TX 1977
Photograph by David Griffith
My original intention was to post these photo postcards following this post
But things didn't work out as I had some computer/scanner issues to deal with. I think things are better.
When my photographic pal David Griffith moved to Austin Texas in late 1976 (not long after our trip to the Bicentennial celebration in Philadelphia), one of the ways we communicated was via the photo postcard. $6.33 is the price tag on the box of 100 double weight Kodabromide F surface on one of boxes (empty) that I still have. For all you youngsters out there, remember this was way before email, flickr, tumblr, etc. Often times what we'd do is try to "one up" and amaze each other with our images. All part of this wonderful game of photography that we play.
And yes, that is me in this picture biting down on the bottom edge of the frame. This was taken by David in the Soap Creek Saloon on our first visit to Texas in 1977. That's Paul Ray and the Cobras playing with Stevie Ray Vaughn on lead guitar.
Hope you enjoy these, and much thanks to my friend David Griffith.
