Mrs. Flicker's Elegant Ensemble

OK, how's this for a costume? This is the 12.5" long Mrs. Northern Flicker, and the other day she stopped by the suet feeder that hangs in the Waiting Bush (which is getting rather autumn-ragged), but when she arrived it was in full shade!

I never did get the settings just right, but you get the picture, I hope! I just had to post her in spite of the technical imperfections, because she is so fine!

Her old man is identical, except that he has a bright scarlet swoosh on his cheek, where hers is very pale orange. It's called a "malar". (New vocab word; Latin mala=jaw or cheekbone.)

SO much love to you all, and I hope you have a fun weekend! Snow up in Flag, maybe?
