Southern Borders at the beginning of June, at dusk

    Newer Older

We redesigned the borders in the foreground last autumn, replacing some of the roses with perennials. The cypresses also had to be replaced (by the more compact 'Totem' variety) after storms and frosts had damaged the previous, much taller trees. The urns are empty at the moment since all our azaleas were killed by severe frosts last winter. The Cornus 'Norman Hadden' in the upper left corner (with the Hosta 'Dreamweaver' underneath) is just starting to flower. The rambler on the railing is John Scarman's 'Breewood Belle', the rose on the left Austin's 'Shakespeare 2000'.

Beautifully designed to have colour all year round. We lived in the Meilen area for over 20 years!

Herbert, you've created a beautiful garden of the best kind: an outdoor living space. Your garden not only allows for, but invites, people to stroll through or sit for a moment. You've made wonderful use of your space . . . this isn't just a "show garden" but is a vibrant, ever-changing extension of your home. Sometimes those weather-induced losses of plants becomes the impetus to change and we find we like the changed garden even more than before.

that's beautiful. love the elements of the formal, with the casual country garden feel. that fence adds a really nice architectural element in this photo.
