Lego Flying Dutchman

De Vliegende Hollander

l' Hollandais Volant

The notorious ghostship from Pirates of the caribbean (Dead Man's Chest and At World's End). Captained by the cursed Davy Jones.

More pictures at Mocpages (a lot more, mocpages is the place to be ;) )

And for the interested; link to the WIP tread (at Eurobricks, classic Pirates)

This is my first SHIP (seriously huge investment in parts), it weights about 4,2 kg and has a lenght of more than a meter (which makes her the biggest lego replica of Davy Jones' famous ghostship on the net). There are still some rough edges but I like it this way.

Apart from the rigging it consists out of 100% LEGO parts.

I used a lot of the lego I already had but this big ship required some bricklink orders as well, I spent about 100 Euro on additional parts, mainly dark tan colored bricks. As you could probably see the colorscheme consists out of gray-ish colors, I tried not to use any bright colors, I also wanted to reduce black as much as possible, which was not easy.

Overall I'm very pleased, the least I could say is that it didn't turn out to be a floating garden (several versions by other builders have bright green plant parts on the hulls).

I placed this ship on Cuusoo, the ship as it is now would probably not make a realistic set but a lot of people were dissapointed that there is no official Flying Dutchman, this might just increase the chances...

One of the problems coming with such large MOC is that my black sheet isn't big enough to fully cover the background
