A view from high up on the Isla de Pescado in the centre of the Salar de Uyuni, looking northwards.


Long shadows are a rather fine feature of late afternoon on the salar and I liked the way these small islands' shadows were racing across the salt surface. The whole process was rather rapid: those shadows were moving at a speed, when I took this shot, such that the frame three seconds later fails to capture the rightmost points!


The foreground lines are tyre tracks, as can be seen in the larger version, though this is highly compressed and the rocks are a kilometre or two away. It's something in the order of 40Km. to the edge of the salt from here.
