Another context shot of the Altiplano. Strictly speaking, this is merely the 'Southern Bolivian Andes' - the Altiplano proper starts further north at the Salar de Uyuni.
This was taken near the point in Chile where the trips across the Bolivian Altiplano to the Salar de Uyuni set off. I'm standing in Chile and most of that frame is in Bolivia. What I didn't know at the time is that I'm also standing in an area which may, or may not, have had the land mines Chile laid a few decades back cleared :-\ I didn't know that at the time; more precisely, I'd been told it was 'fine' up there. Later, other people told me it wasn't. Alarming, if only in retrospect!
I went here at sunset specifically since I'd driven past this area a couple of days earlier and thought that the lines of snow might make a good foreground, even though the volcanoes would mostly be in shade at that time (from other volcanoes). Fortunately, a little light was catching their western flanks to give them some shape and colour.
