Forceful mist

    Newer Older

It was 'a lovely day' today, meaning that there was not a cloud in the sky, so I found something which didn't need any sky!

This is the base of Hardraw Force, in the Yorkshire Dales. It's been dry for a fair few days now, so there is not much water coming down, which is exactly what I was hoping! This is the longest single-drop waterfall in the UK (I now know.....) at about 30m. or thereabouts. Obviously, there's a fair bit more of it above this part....

I tried a few long exposures, but I marginally preferred this one with the water as a veil revealing the rock behind it.

Excellent lighting, water motion and composition. If you used a circular polarizer, you could control the reflection of the rocks.

      Congratulations!

Ha, Ha, Yes we've both caught the same rock at the base of the fall. Good capture & the lighting's good to the right.
I'm working my way through your excellent blog on your website, great reading, the tilt shift lens sounds interesting.

Fabulous clarity. The exposure is fabulous. You can practically touch and smell the wet organicness of this scene.

Your photostream is magnificent. Thank you for sharing your vision with all of us.

I never get tired of waterfall photos and I really like how this one has a sort-of spot-light effect. The rest of the scene is so dark but the waterfall is perfect. Love how there's all these mini-waterfalls and then it seems to EXPLODE when it hits the pond/lake/thing. Beautiful
