White Scar winter hawthorn
EDIT: I'm pleased to say that this image was commended in the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2012 competition and will be exhibited at the National Theatre from 12th November.
I felt I really had to take a photo of something local before all the snow melted.... Given that my thermometer was reading minus 12 up here, that isn't terribly imminent up on this excellent piece of limestone pavement! I like the sense of stillness about this image; it really looks to me as if everything is 'frozen in time'.
This is the largest, most prominent tree on the limestone pavement known as White Scar, to the immediate west of Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
