East London salutes Rio, host of the 2016 games, with a samba-fuelled street parade
On 21 July, a 2,000-person parade was the highlight of the One Hackney Festival.
The parade's Brazilian theme was a salute to Rio de Janeiro, the host city of the 2016 Games.
A samba-playing band dressed up like Beefeaters were surrounded by Brazilian dancers and parade floats.
It happened a few hours before the Olympic Torch Relay passed through the East London neighborhoods of Hackney, Dalston, and Stoke Newington -- all neighbourhoods near the Olympic Village. The event was part of London 2012 Festival, formerly known as the Cultural Olympiad.
