The Beeb is having some fun

Okay, I bet Bill G was a little bummed when he heard Scoble was leaving, but this is too much. Did he really have to fight back the tears? If Scoble thought Bill really cared this much maybe he wouldn't leave! Talk about tugging at the heart strings.

Nah -- Bill Clinton taught him that lip-biting trick.

When they say "It isn't about HTML...." (long pause)... it's about HTML.

I can feel Bill's pain. (However, it looks a little like he's praying Robert will reconsider.)

I presume when I see photos like these that they're stock photos -- and that they may have been taken years ago.

It's an interesting issue, because using a photo that wasn't taken at the time of the news story, in fact, shows Bill having an emotional reaction that has nothing to do with the story. Using old stock photos along with stories isn't journalism: it's a form of stealth editorializing. The editorial staff is using an icon -- "Bill Frowning" to express their own opinions about a story, not Bill Gates' opinion about the story.

Sometimes stock photos are accompanied by a disclosure saying where and when they were taken, but frequently, they're not, and I think a lot of people don't realize what they're seeing, or don't take the time to really consider how the photo is being used, and how it affects their perception of the story.
