Panzer 38(t)

The Czech-built LT v 38 was pressed into service by the Wehrmacht after the Czechoslovakia was annexed by Germany. After being reclassified as the Panzer 38(t) (The "t" stands for "Tschechisch" meaning Czech in German) they were used extensively by the German armored forces during the invasions of Poland, France and the Soviet Union. While they proved reliable vehicles, their light armor and 37mm main gun would prove them quickly outclassed by more power Soviet tanks. While the Panzer 38(t) was withdrawn from combat by 1942, the tanks's chassis would continue to be produced as the basis for the tank destroyers Marder III and Hetzer.
