Mussenden Temple

This is Mussenden Temple which is located right at the edge of cliffs near Castlerock in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF MUSSENDEN :

It was built in 1785 and forms part of the estate of Frederick Augustus Hervey, the 4th Earl of Bristol, Bishop of Derry. Built as a library and modelled on the Temple of Vesta in Italy, it is dedicated to the memory of Hervey's cousin Frideswide Mussenden.

SHOT INFO:

Took 3 bracketed exposures and merged them in Photomatix Pro using the Detail Enhancer option. I then made a copy of the resulting image and gave it another blast with the Detail Enhancer option in Photomatix which resulted in bringing out alot more detail in the building. Both images were opened in photoshop and i used the 2nd image as a layer mask on top of the first image so i could bring through the building with all the detail but leave the rest of the image as it was. Curve and Exposure adjustment layers were then applied with some selective high pass sharpening on the building to finish it off.

I rarely use HDR on my images these days but there are occassions when i feel an image can benefit from this technique. I was shooting into the shadowed side of the building and the HDR treatment really helped to rescue detail here. If you think it's a bit OTT i dont care LOL :)
