Hotel des Invalides

Les Invalides is a complex of buildings in Paris' 7th district, initiated by Louis XIV in 1670 as a home and hospital for aged and unwell soldiers.

Today the complex houses the Musée de l'Armée, one of the world's greatest military museums, and burial sites of many of France's great war heros - including, most notably, Napoleon Bonaparte.

The dome was painted by French painter Charles de La Fosse and sits precisely above Napoleon's tomb.
