Main Street evacuated, Slave Lake wildfire, May 15th, 2011
Images from the wildfire that ravaged my hometown of Slave Lake, Alberta on May 15th, 2011.
Hundreds of homes were destroyed and commercial buildings were lost in a massive wildfire caused by 100 km/h winds, and quite possibly human ignorance.
Everyone got out safe, but with wildfires burning all over the Lesser Slave Lake region it is hard to describe the chaos in this region. Dozens of communities are on alert, many read y to evacuate.
These images were taken on highway 2 at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 88 as the fire burned the area and ravaged the town.
