Ontario Globe Artichokes

In Toronto, artichokes are typically imported from California but some Ontario farmers are begining to dabble with this fine Mediterranean vegetable. I prefer them steamed but grew up eating them baked and stuffed with breadcrumbs...delicious! While I enjoy the Californian artichokes, the Ontario-grown crop possesses a fantastic, peppery flavour that really sets it apart. They're also much smaller which means less cooking time. My vote lies with Ontario!
