Flickr image #1000: The "Anna Koosje" at Boppard, Germany
Dutch converted barge "Anna Koosje" on her way back to Rotterdam, sailing downriver–at Kilometer 571 near Boppard, Germany–beginning of November 2012. This photo was taken from our room at the top of the Hotel Ebertor in the direction of Filsen.
What a lovely vessel, and a change from the cargo carriers going up and down the Rhine River all day and night. In the background, the vineyards of the "Bopparder Hamm" are dug into the hillsides–some as steep as 70 degrees to catch all the sun and minerals–and produce a darn fine Riesling!
Here are more details about her: 29 m X 5 m length and width; built in 1931 at the Ruijtenberg, Waspik shipyard; 160 tons. Her blog appears, courtesy of Johan and Rob, in Dutch: annakoosjeterugnaarhuis.blogspot.de/
May she always sail smoothly! Perhaps we'll be guests on this pleasure craft one fine day?
