Worlds within worlds
I know I am not the first to put a photo of this extraordinary vegetable up on Flickr. But I found this lovely example on the 'bio' stall at Flagey market last Saturday and I could not resist. The Romanesco broccoli is a brassica - the very large family of edible plants that includes everything from cabbage to mustard - and a close cousin of the cauliflower. Unlike the cauliflower, however, its clusters of florets form self-similar, or fractal, logarithmic spirals.
